From the webmaster:

Would you like to know how to get a website for your church?

In this day and age it appears that everyone has a website, so I am surprised at how few churches do.  While speaking with a few local ministers, I have learned that they just don't know how easy it is.  Therefore, as a community service, I would like to tell you how Chapel of the Cross, REC did it.  I will try to explain what I know, one amateur to another.

First, my husband purchased the domain name...or, well the address.   We use a domain hosting service that currently charges $5 per month, but we are billed every 6 months.  (This $60 per year is the only charge.)  They also have a plan that is $2.50 a month (That's only $30 a year). To find out more about how we purchased our domain, click here.

When my husband set up an account with the domain hosting service, we were sent some free software.  One of the programs that we received was Microsoft FrontPage.  I use FrontPage to design and maintain this site.  FrontPage and most other web building software have a "What you see is what you get" feature.  I use this feature because I do not know HTML (a website programming language.)  Before FrontPage came in the mail, I used Microsoft Publisher to design a page, and I used the "save as" feature to turn it into a website.  To find out more about my experience designing this page, click here.

Once the page was designed, it had to be published (put on the web).  I use what is called the FTP to publish the sight.  It is very easy once you know how.  To find out more about publishing with the FTP, click here.

That's it.  If your church has about $30 a year (or someone willing to donate it) and someone with the time to play around with your web design, then you can have a site too.

This information has been provided for you free of charge.  I am curious to learn if anyone uses it.  If this information has been helpful to you, please send a short thank you card to Chapel of the Cross.  We are a very small church, so any donations would be appreciated but not expected.

Hoping that your church gets a site soon,

webmaster
