Nigeria trip

Summer missions to Nigeria...pics

Due to the number of pics that we took on the trip, we thought it best to sort them by date.

July 3, we met the rest of the team in New York...no pics at this time.

July 4, we landed in Lagos; flew to Okigwe, Imo State; met Bishop Alfred Nwaizuzu and his archdeacons; spent the night in the Hollywood International Hotel.

July 5, we attended a welcome ceremony in St. Barnabas Cathedral; this is when we were each assigned a personal archdeacon; we attended a welcome ceremony at the secondary school in Okigwe, Lady Esther Nwaizuzu founded this school.

July 6, we stopped by St. Joseph's Hospital and then attended our welcome ceremony and tour at Christ Church, Ezihe and the seminary there.

July 7, we witnessed the archdeaconry at St. Michael's and All Angels' church.

July 8, we traveled to the Diocese of Ideato for an ordination service.

July 9, was a day at Christ Church.  We worked in the computer lab of the seminary.  They have only 3 working computers.  We did some trouble shooting and found that they actually have 4 working computers but only 3 working monitors.  We copied pics from our digital camera onto the only computer with a USB port.  The boys were intrigued by the digital camera, so I let the director go around campus taking pics.  They were surprised to hear that they could take as many shots as they wanted and that all I might have to do is change the batteries.

July 10, we toured all 3 sites with Bishop Nwaizuzu to see what work had been done.  On the way back, we stopped at a gas station that had a little gift shop.  They were selling stuffed animals.  Bishop Nwaizuzu really liked the lion, but he felt the price was too high.

July 11  The day began by passing out tooth brushes to the students at the primary school at St. Barnabas cathedral, Okigwe.  Rev. Wiggins provided the tooth brushes.  Then we went to Ezihe where we toured a public school.  This day was a particular treat because we were invited to dine with the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Christ Church.  (I'm sorry, I did not catch his name...I was back in Okigwe sick.  I was told that I missed a real treat!)  At the end of this gallery, you will see Kathy Moock hard at work.

July 12, we presented funds to the secondary schools in Okigwe and Oka.  Then we visited Christ Church and took pictures of the ordination retreat.  (Notice that the wives attend training with their husbands.)  To end the day, we were taken to the market in Owerri.  While everyone else was at the market, the two Shedricks and the camera were safely in the care of our goverment driver, Obi.

July 13, looks like the camera only had fun on this day.

July 14, we went to Dr. Ekezie's home town and met his Eze (king).  He and his beautiful wife were very welcoming.  Then we went to Dr. Ekezie's friend Jasper's house.  Jasper showed us one of the wells that he funded.

Much more to come...check back soon.
